When you are looking for information on the Web pages , you can use the WWW search engines - special search tools that will make your search much easier and much more efficient.
T2
All the WWW search engines work the same way - they all keep lists of WWW sights, coded by subjects, key words (words that best describe the content of the sight) etc., which they update every once in a while.
T3
When you address a Web search engine, specifying what you are looking for, it will show you all the sights that match your request.
T4
The main difference between the search engines is the search strategy they use.

Basically, there are two search strategies:
T7
1. Key words based search - every sight listed has its own key words, as they were defined by the owners of the sight.
When you type in your required key words, you will receive a list of matching sights.
T8
2. Menu based indexes - the sights listed are devided by categories and sub categories of subjects.
When you are looking for specific data - choose the relevant subject, determine the relevant sub category etc., until you'll find what you are looking for.
T9
Some engines (like the Infoseek for example) use both strategies.

When choosing your search tool, there are few things you should keep in mind:
T11
1. What is your search goal - if you are looking for specific information, you might want to use the Key words based search.
On the other hand, if you wish to tour the net, looking for interesting sights and information, you might want to use the Menu based indexes, which display detailed lists of subjects.
T12
2. Do you know exactly what you are looking for - when searching for key words, the quality of your results greatly depends on the accuracy of your key words. Therefore, if you are not sure what those key words are, using Menu based indexes would be a good idea.
T13
3. How urgent is your search - Menu based indexes are more convenient, but your search might take longer.
